The Opportunity
A private family in Denver, Colorado, is seeking an exceptional, highly experienced Private Educator to provide individualized academic instruction, enrichment, and developmental support for their gifted and neurodivergent 7-year-old son.
This is a unique opportunity for an innovative, intellectually curious, and deeply committed educator who is passionate about creating an educational experience tailored to the individual child rather than following a traditional classroom model.
The family is seeking an educator who brings a strong foundation in elementary academics, an advanced understanding of gifted and twice-exceptional (2e) learners, and the creativity and flexibility to make education engaging, experiential, and meaningful.
The ideal candidate will be confident in assessing academic abilities, developing and adapting curriculum, identifying areas for growth, and creating a thoughtful educational program that both challenges and supports the child.
Beyond academics, this individual will play an integral role in supporting executive functioning, emotional regulation, independence, social-emotional development, and the coordination of enriching educational experiences.
This is not a traditional nanny position, a conventional classroom teaching role, or a position focused on simply administering a prepackaged homeschool curriculum.
The family is seeking a true educational professional who is excited to take meaningful ownership of one child's academic and developmental journey.
Equally important, this is a career opportunity within a private household. The successful candidate must genuinely understand and embrace the flexibility, discretion, initiative, responsiveness, and elevated level of personalized service that private family employment requires.
About the Child
The family's 7-year-old son is exceptionally bright, inquisitive, energetic, and strong-willed. He is a gifted, neurodivergent learner who thrives when supported by adults who understand the complexities of asynchronous development.
His intellectual abilities, emotional maturity, executive functioning, and developmental needs do not always progress at the same pace. He benefits from an educator who understands these differences and can thoughtfully adapt expectations and instructional approaches accordingly.
The ideal educator will understand that challenging behaviors are not always rooted in unwillingness or defiance. They may reflect frustration, executive-function challenges, sensory needs, anxiety, boredom, or developmental differences.
The family is looking for someone who can recognize these underlying factors, respond with patience and sound judgment, and guide him through challenges without unnecessary power struggles.
At the same time, the family values consistency, accountability, appropriate boundaries, and high expectations.
The right educator will strike a thoughtful balance between nurturing and challenging him, helping him build confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, independence, and frustration tolerance.
Above all, the family wants someone who genuinely enjoys working with gifted, spirited, and unconventional children and finds fulfillment in understanding how each individual child learns best.
Educational Philosophy & Approach
The family believes that exceptional education should be rigorous, engaging, individualized, and connected to the world beyond a classroom.
They are not seeking someone who will simply follow a boxed homeschool curriculum or recreate a traditional school environment inside their home.
Instead, the Private Educator will be responsible for developing a dynamic, personalized educational experience grounded in a strong understanding of academic fundamentals, developmental needs, and the child's individual interests and abilities.
The educator must be capable of evaluating where the child currently stands academically, establishing meaningful goals, and thoughtfully designing a curriculum that supports both foundational mastery and advanced learning opportunities.
A successful day may include structured literacy and mathematics instruction, followed by a science experiment, museum visit, nature exploration, hands-on building project, research activity, or other meaningful real-world learning experience.
The family values educators who can recognize learning opportunities throughout everyday life and creatively transform curiosity into academic growth.
Educational backgrounds incorporating Montessori principles, gifted education, special education, project-based learning, interdisciplinary instruction, and other individualized approaches are particularly appealing.
The ideal candidate will be structured without being rigid, creative without sacrificing academic rigor, and flexible while maintaining clear educational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Individualized Curriculum Development & Academic Instruction
Assess the child's current academic abilities, learning profile, strengths, interests, and areas requiring additional support.
Independently design, develop, implement, and continually refine a comprehensive individualized educational plan.
Select, create, and adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and educational resources based on the child's learning needs and academic progress.
Provide direct, high-quality instruction in foundational elementary subjects, including literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and written language.
Demonstrate strong expertise in early literacy instruction, including phonics, reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and writing development.
Ensure mastery of essential academic foundations while identifying opportunities for accelerated or advanced learning.
Establish measurable educational goals, monitor academic progress, and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
Incorporate the child's individual interests into meaningful instruction while maintaining accountability for essential academic development.
Maintain organized educational records, progress assessments, instructional plans, and ongoing communication with the parents.
Experiential Learning & Educational Enrichment
Create engaging, hands-on, project-based learning opportunities that encourage curiosity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity.
Incorporate museums, libraries, outdoor exploration, community resources, cultural experiences, and educational outings into the child's learning.
Develop interdisciplinary projects that connect academic concepts to real-world experiences.
Proactively research and recommend extracurricular activities, specialized programs, educational resources, and enrichment opportunities aligned with the child's interests and developmental goals.
Recognize emerging interests and independently identify opportunities to expand and deepen the child's knowledge.
Integrate meaningful educational experiences into occasional family travel when appropriate.
Gifted Education, Executive Functioning & Social-Emotional Development
Apply a strong understanding of giftedness, twice-exceptionality, ADHD, executive-function differences, and asynchronous development.
Support the development of planning, organization, task initiation, time management, transitions, and other executive-function skills.
Incorporate strategies that strengthen emotional regulation, frustration tolerance, resilience, and problem-solving.
Adapt instruction and expectations to accommodate differences between intellectual ability and developmental readiness.
Recognize potential barriers to learning and proactively modify approaches when necessary.
Maintain appropriate structure, consistency, boundaries, and accountability while respecting the child's individual needs.
Encourage increasing independence, confidence, self-advocacy, and practical life skills.
Educational Coordination & Whole-Child Support
This role extends beyond direct academic instruction. The family is seeking someone who will develop a comprehensive understanding of the child's educational, extracurricular, and developmental needs.
Responsibilities will include:
Collaborating closely with parents, therapists, specialists, and other professionals involved in the child's development.
Helping coordinate and maintain oversight of extracurricular activities, therapies, specialist appointments, and other child-related commitments.
Incorporating relevant professional recommendations into daily educational routines and developmental goals.
Researching specialized educational resources, enrichment programs, extracurricular opportunities, and additional support services when appropriate.
Proactively identifying opportunities to strengthen the child's overall educational and developmental experience.
Maintaining organized schedules, educational materials, records, and child-related planning.
Communicating regularly with parents regarding progress, challenges, recommendations, and emerging needs.
Working collaboratively with the family's household team while respecting professional boundaries and the parents' decision-making authority.
The family is looking for someone who takes initiative and ownership rather than waiting for daily direction.
Understanding the Private-Service Environment
A genuine interest in and understanding of private service is essential for success in this position.
Unlike traditional classroom teaching, private education requires an exceptionally individualized approach, a high degree of professional autonomy, and a willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of one child and family.
The successful candidate must be comfortable operating within a private household and understand that the position is structured around the child's educational and developmental needs rather than a traditional school calendar or classroom schedule.
This position is not intended for educators seeking a reduced workload, shorter hours, or a more conventional work-life balance than traditional teaching.
The family offers a competitive compensation and benefits package reflective of the significant responsibility, flexibility, and individualized attention required.
Candidates should be genuinely enthusiastic about the opportunity to work in private service and prepared to meet the expectations associated with that environment.
These expectations include:
Working approximately 45–50 hours per week, with flexibility as the child's schedule and family needs evolve.
Adapting to occasional changes in daily schedules, appointments, educational activities, and travel.
Demonstrating exceptional professionalism, discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
Anticipating needs, taking initiative, and independently managing responsibilities.
Maintaining excellent organization, communication, and follow-through.
Collaborating respectfully and effectively with parents, household staff, and outside professionals.
Remaining responsive, adaptable, and solution-oriented in a dynamic private household environment.
Demonstrating a service-minded approach while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Candidates transitioning from traditional school settings are welcome to apply; however, they must demonstrate a thoughtful understanding of the differences between institutional education and private family service, along with a genuine desire to embrace those differences.
The family is seeking someone who views private education as an intentional professional commitment, not simply an alternative to classroom teaching.
